Stainingley: Green light for flats above restaurants and takeaways

Four flats will be created above restaurants/hot food takeaways at 116 Stanningley Town Street – despite concerns from a Bramley & Stanningley councillor.

Applicant Abid Hussain has received planning permission to replace existing first floor storage areas with the flats, along with a new ground floor entrance to front and alterations to shopfronts.

A similar scheme was rejected on highways grounds last May, and the latest scheme had received objections from Councillor Kevin Ritchie (Lab, Bramley & Stanningley) mainly on the grounds of a lack of adequate parking.

But a council planning officer’s report approving the plans concluded: “The proposed development represents an appropriate reuse of the existing upper-floor space within a mixed commercial frontage, retaining the ground-floor commercial use while delivering four residential units that meet adopted space standards.

“The external alterations improve the appearance, coherence and functionality of the building without giving rise to harm to the streetscene or neighbouring amenity.”

The plans can be viewed in full here.
