Following the success of previous years’ events Rodley Nature Reserve is to hold its third Nature Quest Day on Saturday, 20 July.
The event is family orientated with activities for both children and adults which range from moth trapping to worm charming.
The event will coincide with the “Big Butterfly Count” which will be included as one of the activities and the Butterfly Conservation charity has kindly donated count sheets together with certificates for children taking part in the exercise.
In addition there will be activities on owl pellet dissection, Bee hives, a bird walk including binocular training, pond dipping, dragonfly identification and a wildflower walk.
Denise Swann, trustee and events co-ordinator, said: “The event is designed to introduce the local community, and especially children, to wildlife and particularly in the identification of species and understanding of habitats and conservation. This mirrors one of the Trust’s core values.
“There will be 12 family friendly activities all of which will be supervised by our local experts to help and advise. There will be tea, coffee and cakes available in the Visitor Centre and also a designated picnic area and we hope our visitors will make a day of it.”
The event takes place 10am until 3pm on Saturday, 20 July and additional car parking will be available at the adjacent Rodley Cricket Club and William Merritt Centre.
