Kirkstall Abbey was bouncing to ‘Baggy Trousers’ as Madness wowed the crowds at their concert. Gary Lemal was there to savour the atmosphere.
Popular Liverpool band the Zutons opened with lively, fun music which was enjoyed by the audience at Kirkstall Abbey in the warm Friday evening summer sun.
They were followed by Leeds’s own Pigeon Detectives, playing from their extensive repertoire with favourites such as “I Found Out”, “I’m not sorry” and “Take Her Back”.
Lead singer Matt Bowman gave an energetic performance really getting the crowd into a party mood.
Madness opened with “You’re An Embarrassment”, moving into “Prince Buster” and they included songs from their recent number one album “C’est La Vie” but these were scattered through the performance in amongst hits such as “Wings of a Dove” and “Bed and Breakfast Man”.
There was a short comfort break during which time one of the band sang “Highway to Hell” but with complete Madness back on stage again the band launched into their greatest number one hit “Welcome to the House of Fun”. The whole crowd were singing along with “It Must be Love”.
“Madness” was the final number before the encore, the ska classic “Night Boat to Cairo” closed the set for Madness in Kirkstall Abbey.
It was an amazing night!!
Too pricey for the much too old never mind young!!!
It was a full on assault on local residents who were bombarded with excessive noise vibrating through our floors and homes from 10am in the morning until 11 at night for three consecutive days. People avoiding the £11 car parking charge used our streets to park on so we could not park anywhere near our homes if we left our space.
