Gary Delaney is a master of the one liner. Sunday night at the Old Woollen in Farsley saw him deliver a storming performance – although this was only “work in progress”, testing his material before his new tour “Gary On Laughing”
The show in Farsley was an absolute joy from start to finish, with a buzzing crowd of well over 200 people packed in and ready to laugh – and laugh we did.
Outside, the weather had been doing its usual Yorkshire impression (grey, wet, and slightly miserable), but inside Gary definitely brought the sunshine with him.
From the first joke to the final groan-worthy pun, he fired out one-liners faster than most of us could mentally recover, leaving the audience in a constant state of “laugh, gasp, repeat.”
His trademark wordplay, cheeky delivery and perfectly timed pauses had the room wobbling with giggles, snorts and the occasional “oh no, that was clever.”
Even when testing new material, he made it feel like we were in on the joke, creating a warm, lively atmosphere that felt more like a big, happy comedy club than a gig.
The Farsley audience loved it when he vilified Pudsey. We were in stitches about the various antics and deaths of his many brothers, numerous Grandfathers and a dozen or so Grandmothers.
By the end, faces ached, spirits were lifted, and everyone left feeling brighter than the weather outside—proof that a brilliant comedian, a great venue, and a packed house are the perfect recipe for a cracking night out.
Gary Delaney’s new tour starts in April though you will have to be quick buying tickets as most of the 80 dates are already sold out.
