Pudsey Priesthorpe School WILL become an academy, it’s been revealed.
In a letter to parents, chair of governors Ian Featherstone said the Regional Schools Commissioner has agreed in principle the school’s application to join the Co-operative Academies Trust and has issued an Academy Order.
A number of legal and financial processes will now be completed with the intention that the school joins the Trust in the summer.
Mr Featherstone said:
“My colleagues on the school’s governing body, the headteacher, his senior leadership team and I all firmly believe that becoming an academy and, in particular , becoming a member of the Co-operative Academies Trust is one of the most significant events in the school’s over fifty years’ history.”
The decision follows a consultation with parents which ended on March 1.
Governors hope the partnership with o-operative Academies Trust will accelerate the pace of school improvement and student progress. The Dispatch reported last month on an Ofsted inspection which downgraded Priesthorpe’s rating from ‘good’ in 2012 to ‘requires improvement’.
