Plans to turn part of the former Pudsey HSBC Bank building into two shops have been submitted to Leeds City Council.
Applicant Harseen Abdul Karim, of real estate company Golden Oak Estate, has submitted the plans to change the front part of the ground floor into two retail units. The rear of the ground floor is not included in the application.
The works include new glazed shopfront openings, installing two new glazed entrance doors, and introducing slim black aluminium framing.
A design statement submitted with the application concludes: “The alterations have been designed to improve the functionality of the building while preserving its architectural character and maintaining the quality of the existing streetscape.
“Large, glazed panels improve natural daylight and visibility into the shop while maintaining the original structural rhythm of the façade.”
The proposals are the latest in a series of applications for the Church Lane building, which have previously included residential, retail and a hot food takeaway. At one stage Starbucks was linked with opening a coffee shop there.
In June WLD reported how the planned conversion of the building’s downstairs into five flats were blocked by the city council.
The ground floor has been empty since HSBC closed its doors in October 2020. Flats are already based in the floors above.
