Pudsey chippy hails bumper catch in Candlelighters fundraiser

A Pudsey chippy is aiming to help ‘batter’ children’s cancer after raising £1,400 for Candlelighters.

The Bearded Sailor, in Robin Lane, sold around 700 fish and chips ‘lite’ meals at just £2 a go one day earlier this month.

The Bearded Sailor owner Alex Papaioannaou said: “We are honoured to host such a memorable event and raise a great amount of money for this brilliant charity.”

Partnerships executive for Candellighters, Iain Blackwood Hobbs, thanked Alex and his team and everyone who bought food on the day.

He said: “Alex and the team did a fantastic job creating awareness of Candlelighters and supporting the work that we do to help families going through a childhood cancer journey. It will help us to provide vital emotional, practical and financial services. We are looking forward to working with the team again in the future.”

Earlier this month The Bearded Sailor was named as one of the top 40 chippies in the country in a national award run by The National Federation of Fish Friers.
