A public meeting will this week aim to establish a support group to help improve and bring investment to Stanningley Park.
It’s hoped that the Friends of Stanningley Park group would see park users help promote, care for and improve the park and also attract additional funding.
Anyone who uses the park is being invited to come along to the public meeting, which is being held at Stanningley Primary School, on Leeds and Bradford Road, on Thursday, 17 March, from 5pm to 6pm.
The meeting is being supported by Bramley & Stanningley councillors Kevin Ritchie, Caroline Gruen and Jools Heselwood. Speaking to WLD, Cllr Ritchie said the meeting was ‘something of a relaunch’ after previous attempts to start a group prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said:
“We are excited at the relaunch of Friends of Stanningley Park and hope residents of all ages can join us. ‘Friends of’ groups can help directly improve the parks, influence changes and – crucially – access external funding to help deliver much-needed investment.”
The park saw some investment two years ago, including a new pathway for walking, jogging and cycling.
Last month WLD featured young couple Alyssa Randell and her partner Andy Marshall, who are hoping to breathe new life into the bowling green at Stanningley Park.
