Petition calls for Calverley traffic measures

Calls to cut speeding traffic on a Calverley have been submitted to Leeds City Council.

Campaigners have been fighting to get the speed of traffic reduced on Woodhall Road, Calverley, and have submitted a petition with more than 350 names on it to Leeds City Council chief executive Tom Riordan.

The road currently has a speed limit of 30 miles an hour but villagers are calling for further measures to reduce speed in the area.

Villagers have been campaigning for a number of years to tackle speeding traffic. The stretch of road has seen a number of tragedies over the year.

In a letter to people who signed the petition, local councillors Andrew and Amanda Carter and Rod Wood said:

“The petition was presented by us … with a request that the issues raised in the petition and, indeed, all those issues which we have raised over the past number of years, are properly considered and reconsidered, and a proposal brought forward for consultation with local residents, which will reduce speed and significantly improve pedestrian safety.”
