A new community hub bringing people in Burley and Kirkstall together has been officially opened this week.

Kirkstall Valley Development Trust (KVDT) has moved into its new base at Flexspace, off Burley Road, after spending several years at Unit 11 in Kirkstall Bridge Retail park.

The new facilities see KVDT provide a number of community activities and groups, including a craft cafe, a tots group, employability courses, a co-working area and a comprehensively stocked community library.

Starting on Friday 26 November will be ‘Knit & Natter’, an informal new knitting and crotchet session open to all.

Joanne Brophy, from the Hookers and Clickers group, will be on hand to teach new skills. £2 per session includes a drink and materials. Sign up to come along.

Speaking to the West Leeds Dispatch, KVDT’s Adele Rae said:

“We are looking to bring people together in a safe and warm space where people can come for support and meet new people. We can point people in the right direction if they’re needing help or support with anything.

“We’re here to celebrate all that is good about Burley and Kirkstall, fulfil the needs of the community and be led by them. This is very much the community’s space.”
