Farnley Beck was running ‘green’ into the reservoir yesterday.
But alarmed passers by needn’t have been worried – the substance was apparently a harmless dye and not polution as first feared.
An Environment Agency spokesperson said:
“Our checks at Farnley Beck revealed that the green discolouration in the water is harmless tracing dye that poses no risk to the environment. Thanks to those who reported it. If you see any pollution, please call our incident hotline on 0800 807060 so we can investigate.”
