Listed: West Leeds Remembrance services 2025

West Leeds will remember the fallen on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. Here’s our guide to services in your community.

Armley

This year’s Armley Remembrance Day service will take place on Sunday (9th November) at the War Memorial in Armley Park. 

The event, which begins at 10.45am, is open to the public and those wishing to pay their respects are invited to assemble at 10.40 am and an Order of Ceremony and hymn sheet will be distributed. 

Brothers Jonathan and Michael Schofield have once again worked on the content and order of service alongside local resident Richard Banks. Keith Fraser-Smith will be conducting a traditional Church of England service. The congregation of Christ Church Upper Armley have also been invited to the service. 

The Leeds University Student Union Band will provide music on the day. The Boys Brigade, Scouts and Guides will also be in attendance alongside a bugler to play the Last Post at the  service. Representatives from other community organisations have been invited to participate and lay wreathes. 

Bramley

Bramley War Memorial will host its annual Service of Remembrance on Sunday, 9 November to remember all those who gave their lives at home and abroad.

Join with surviving Veterans, Cadets and Uniformed groups, young people and the community in honouring all those whose lives were given and taken away in both World Wars and in wars and conflicts since. We will be joined by a representative of the West Yorkshire Lord Lieutenant – a Deputy Lord Lieutenant will remember alongside of us and lay a wreath.

On Armistice Day, Tuesday 11 November there will also be a serice, and pupils from local schools will be in attendance.

Both services will start at 10.40am. There will be a two-minute silence at 11am.

Calverley

Prayers will be held at the Cenotaph at 10am followed by a non-communion service in St Wilfrid’s Church at 10.30am. This year there will be a short Said Eucharist at 9am for those wishing to take communion.

The Said Eucharist will be finished to allow people time to walk to the Cenotaph if they wish or to remain in church and wait for the Remembrance Parade to come into church for the Remembrance Service.

City centre

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Dan Cohen, will lead the city’s Remembrance Sunday service this Sunday, 9 November, honouring servicemen and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

A procession of dignitaries will leave Leeds Civic Hall at 10.50am, joining veterans, ex-service organisations and current military personnel for the march to the war memorial in Victoria Gardens.

The act of remembrance will begin at 11am with a two-minute silence, preceded by the Last Post. The service will be shown on large screens in Victoria Gardens to ensure everyone attending can view the proceedings.

Following the service, the Lord Mayor and civic representatives will take the salute during a march past in Millennium Square.

Farnley & Wortley Parish

This Sunday Wortley and Farnley Parish marks Remembrance Sunday with a slightly different pattern to Sunday worship. People will gather at 10am at St John’s Church and 11am at Farnley Cenotaph for Acts of Remembrance.

Farsley

Sunday’s Service of Remembrance at Farsley Cenotaph will start at 1.30pm. Please gather from 1.20pm. Those wishing to visit the memorial at 11am to observe a minute’s silence are welcome to do so.

Farsley Rehoboth

Farsley Rehoboth Armistice Service is held on Tuesday, 11 November 2025 at 10.45am, assemble 10.30am. The service is being officiated by Reverend Nathanael Poole, accompanied by Dr Kuldip Kaur Bharj OBE, Deputy Lord Lieutenant.

Hawksworth Wood

A community act of remembrance will be held at the war memorial in Hawksworth Wood in the presence of a Lord Lieutenant on Tuesday, 11 November (11am).

Horsforth

In Horsforth on Sunday a parade will start at the junction of Broadgate Lane/Stanhope Drive, outside Morrisons Daily, at 10am followed by a Remembrance Service which will take place at the Horsforth Cenotaph starting at 10.45am.

Refreshments will be available from The Willows, which is next door to the Cenotaph.

Kirkstall

On Sunday at 10.45am the Remembrance Service will be held at Kirkstall St Stephen’s Church, and will be led by Rev Stephen Kaye.

Tuesday 11 November, 10.30-11.30am: there will be a community act of remembrance at the Kirkstall War Memorial, Bridge Road.

Service to be conducted by Rev Stephen Kaye in the presence of Deputy Lord Lieutenant Merran McRae. Poems and prayers to be read by children from Beecroft, Sacred Heart, Hawksworth Wood, Kirkstall Valley, Kirkstall St Stephen’s and Burley St Matthias Primary Schools. Knitted poppy display by Hookers and Clickers knitting group.

Pudsey

The Civic Observance of Remembrance and Parade will take place on Sunday 9th November 2025. Timings are noted below.

  • 9.45am – Parade leaves the bus station
  • 9.55am – Parade arrives at the Parish Church
  • 10am – Community Service at the Parish Church
  • 10.50am – Parade forms up outside the church
  • 11am – Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph
  • 11.15am – Parade returns to the bus station for dismissal.

There will also be a short Armistice Day service at the Pudsey Cenotaph on Tuesday, 11 November, beginning at 10.55am (please arrive by 10:45 am). Local schools and those unable to attend the weekend events are especially encouraged to join us for this act of remembrance.

Rodley

This Sunday, the community will come together at Rodley Park, Town Street to pause, reflect, and remember those who gave everything for the lives we live today. The service will begin at 12.30pm.
