Work at the side of the Outer Ring Road between Rodley roundabout and Dawsons Corner should be completed ‘early next year’, highways chiefs have said.
The work, which is nearing competition, aims to improve connectivity by making it safer and more accessible for walking, wheeling, and cycling.
Upgraded street lighting has been installed and final touches like surfacing, kerbing, benches, bins, landscaping and tree planting are coming soon.
As a result of the work the road will be closed for traffic travelling from Rodley Roundabout towards Dawsons Corner from Monday 9 December to Thursday 12 December, 10pm-6am
Calverley Lane Junction and Priesthorpe Road junctions on this side of the ring road will also be closed. Traffic from Dawson Corner towards Rodley Roundabout will remain unaffected.
As reported by WLD in October, council planners have approved proposals for a £7 million foot and cycling bridge over the Outer Ring Ring to improve links between Calverley and Farsley. Work is due to start on the bridge in 2025.
A speed reduction to 50mph on the A6120 Outer Ring Road and A647 Stanningley Bypass, from Horsforth roundabout to Stanningley Bypass at Henconner Lane Bridge has already been implemented, along with road improvements between Rodley roundabout and Horsforth.
The overall Connecting West Leeds scheme was originally approved for £20m of government ‘Levelling Up’ funding in 2021. Additional funding has been provided by West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
