Are you interested in telling and sharing the stories of West Leeds?

We’re in the throes of setting up a blog and newspaper to share news of life in West Leeds.

If you are interested in contributing and get involved to help tell the story of your patch of West Leeds then please join us at our first informal meeting on Tuesday, 30 June, where we’ll outline our plans and hear how you think we can bring to life the news and views of the good, bad and random of our wonderful (and sometimes weird) part of Leeds.

Who are we looking for?

People with a passion for where they live, who have a little time to invest and interest in helping shine a light on community stories, people, news, history, the interesting stuff.

You may already run a blog in West Leeds, or have an active twitter account, or are brilliant with a camera, a fiend for finding facts. We’re really interested to develop a network of community reporters, story tellers and instigators across West Leeds.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any of these skills, we can offer training and support to help you.

What’s expected of you?

At the meeting we aim to ascertain your area of interest, ideas and how much time you might be able to commit to volunteering to the project.

Who are we?

Currently there are just the two of us… but we’re really open to this being a collaborative venture.

John Baron journalist leeds
John Baron

John Baron, editor. John has been a journalist for more than 21 years, writing for a number of local publications, as well as the Guardian. He’s currently a lecturer in journalism and digital media, working in Hull.

But more importantly he was Pudsey born and bred and now lives in Farnley and wants to see west Leeds have more of a voice.

Emma Bearman, instigator: Emma has a rich history of creating what are called hyperlocal blogs, starting with the now infamous Armley Tourist Board and then moving on to the multi author blog The Culture Vulture. She’s set up the little twitter account @ArmleyGoodStuff in a desire to showcase some of the brighter stuff that happens in Armley. She’s social media’d up to the hilt with about 456 Twitter accounts and a few less Facebook pages

Currently the project is unfunded but we will be seeking funds to create a part time post for John to manage the site and paper.

To confirm your attendance, and for confirmation of our venue, check out our Eventbrite page to register.
