Councillors on the Inner South West Community Committee will next week decide whether to award £10,000 towards writing the long-awaited Kirkstall Neighbourhood Plan.
The Kirkstall Neighbourhood Forum (KNF) was formed in 2016 to prepare a Kirkstall Neighbourhood Plan, which gives residents better control over new development and greater influence over the spending of local funds.
Now the forum is asking councillors to help fund the writing of the plan, which follows what they say is ‘extensive’ consultation with the Kirkstall community.
A report to be considered by councillors says consultation has included hand-delivery paper and electronic surveys. It adds: “The Forum has held public meetings across the ward to get as much feedback as we can and have attended local community events including the Kirkstall festival and farmers markets.
“The team have hand-delivered questionnaires to local businesses, schools and care homes to seek their views.
“The Forum has sought views in surveys around heritage, greenspace, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the Kirkstall ward. This engagement has allowed us to reach this stage of the proposed plan.”
Members of the inner south west community committee will decide whether to approve, defer, or decline the application for £10,000 at its next meeting, which will be held at Leeds Civic Hall on Tuesday, 8 September at 5.30pm. Following a presentation, councillors will also discuss ways that Leeds Museums and Galleries might work in the Inner South West area in the future as the council carries out a strategic review of the service.
The Inner South West Community Committee covers the Armley, Beeston & Holbeck, Hunslet & Riverside and Kirkstall wards.
