Housing plans resubmitted at The Swinnow pub

By John Baron

Plans to build eight houses on the site of The Swinnow pub have been re-submitted.

The Swinnow Lane site has been the subject off a long-running planning saga dating back to 2015.

As reported by WLD, the most recent plans for the site were approved five years ago, and included the demolition of the pub and the building of eight new houses.

A detached bungalow and a pair of semi-detached houses have already been built on the plot, but documents published on the council’s website say re-submission is necessary due to enforcement action related to conditions of a previous approval. The plans now include a new site layout.

The proposals, submitted by Mr M Lawn, also include a bike shed and landscaped areas.

Members of the public have until Thursday, April 17 to comment on the latest application. The plans can be found here.

Planning saga

It’s taken ten years to get to this stage, with several planning applications submitted in the past.

An outline application establishing the principle of housing on the site was approved by the council in 2015.

In September 2017 The Dispatch reported on a planning application for a new – smaller – pub on the site with five flats above and four pairs of semi-detached houses and one detached house. The proposal was later withdrawn.

In November 2018 plans were submitted for ten semi-detached properties and four apartments, which drew 61 local objections. These plans were amended into the scheme which has just received planning permission.
