Horsforth councillor champions veterans’ cause

By Jill Stocks

A Horsforth councillor is backing a nationwide veterans’ organisation in their efforts helping military and blue light families.

Cllr Emmie Bromley (Lab, Horsforth) met with representatives from Resilient Bonds CIC (community interest company) this week to learn more about their work and the support they provide.

Cllr Bromley was joined by Stephen Boardman MBE, Deputy Lord Lieutenant in West Yorkshire, alongside partner Julia Moss, in finding out more about the services offered by psychotherapists Zoe Tzanetis and Mia Varley from the organisation.

“Resilient Bonds are looking to tackle generational trauma, by providing emotional skills, to support loved ones and for those themselves in the military and blue light services,” Cllr Bromley said.

“Truly inspirational and I can’t thank Julia Moss and Stephen Boardman enough for taking the time at Leeds Civic to engage on this topic, while sharing experience and knowledge – it certainly felt worthwhile.”

Stephen Boardman MBE is a veteran, having served in the Parachute Regiment.

He said: “I am so grateful to Cllr Bromley for inviting my partner Julia and I to meet with Zoe and Mia. From personal experience, I know that there is a real need for the innovative services which Resilient Bonds provides. I very much look forward to supporting Zoe and Mia in any way I can.”

Resilient Bonds provide psycho educational programmes and counseling and support specifically designed for the challenges faced by military families, veterans, blue light service members and their families.

Zoe, who grew up in Pudsey, and Mia are passionate about supporting the cause, a passion which comes from personal experience.

“At Resilient Bonds CIC, we believe that when you support the emotional wellbeing of families in the military and blue light communities, you strengthen the whole system,” Zoe said.

“Our work is about restoring connection, building resilience, and making sure no-one feels alone in the challenges they face.”
