This month a new hop growing club is launching in Pudsey and Kirkstall, writes Alan Thornton.
All over the country groups gather to buy and pick-up hop plants in early spring, grow them at home in the garden or large pots, and then reconvene in the autumn with freshly picked hops to go in a brew made by a local brewer.
This is the first club of its kind in Yorkshire and its a thoroughly West Leeds affair: the launch is at the annual Leeds Beer Festival at Pudsey Civic Hall (16-18 March); there is another pick-up evening from Kirkstall (22 March) and the brewing will Stanningley done by Sunbeam Ales.
