Get involved in Farsley’s lantern-making workshops as parade returns

Farsley residents are being invited to join willow workshops and help make giant lanterns for the second annual lantern parade.

Last year more than 500 members of the community came together to create Farsley’s first ever lantern parade.

The parade is managed and organised by Grumpy’s owners – and founders of Farsley Community Project – Alex and Cassie Rogerson.

It aims to bring the community together through creativity and inclusion and enhance Farsley’s long standing Lights Switch On event, which this year runs on Wednesday, 26 November.

Workshops are now running to create and decorate new giant willow puppets for this year’s parade.

In these workshops you’ll be taught how to create sculptures using eco-friendly willow.

“We also hope to repurpose last year’s puppets, giving them a new lease of life for 2025!” a spokesperson said.

The theme of this year’s Lantern Parade will be ‘Children’s Literature’

The workshops are held at Grumpy’s Restaurant in Farsley every Monday from 4pm until 8.30pm and will run until Monday, 24 November.

  • Details of how you can get involved – or make a donation towards the cost of running the parade – can be found here.
