From eyesore to blooming lovely – Armley site restored

By Andy Dalton

Blooming daffodils and flowers are the result of hard work put in by volunteers in Armley.

A small patch of ground adjacent to the Leeds City Mission Compassion Centre in Mistress Lane has been the target of willing volunteers in recent times.

The small corner of land was overgrown and a dropping place for litter. Volunteers at the West Leeds based charity decided to make the patch a small place of beauty for passers-by.

Rolling up their sleeves, they have tilled the soil, removed weeds and rubbish and planted daffodils along with other flowers. They are now bursting into bloom in the beautiful sunshine of Spring.

A spokesman for Leeds City Mission said that there is significant footfall along Mistress Lane as people make their way to the Town Street shops. There are also increasing numbers visiting the projects in the City Mission Compassion Centre.

The corner plot of land is a perfect spot for a flower bed bringing a welcome to visitors to the Centre and beauty for people heading for the shopping area of Armley.

Leeds City Mission is a multi-church Christian agency which has worked with marginalised people since 1837.

It provides a number of projects from its premises designed to meet the social, physical and spiritual needs of local residents and people struggling with life. More details on 0113 345 3118.
