Friends of Burley Park plan community activities – here’s how to get involved

By community reporter

Spring is in full swing and Burley Park is looking lovely.

The Friends of Burley Park group had a great turnout for the Easter Egg Hunt last month and it was great to see so many people enjoying exploring the park and learning about the wildlife to be seen there.

Later this month the Friends will be running their May Blossom Picnic event again.

This month’s volunteer day is on Sunday, 11 May 2025 and there are lots of jobs for people to be getting on with, including the usual weeding and tidying of the shrub beds, planting up the lavender beds, the new compost bin we built last month needs staining and there are new signs to put up which will help us share the activities in the park more widely.

The Friends have some tools, but if you have your own shears, spade or trowels, you are encouraged to bring them with you.

Meet by the bandstand at 10am, finish at 12pm.

May Blossom Picnic

The Friends are hosting another May Blossom Picnic, from 12pm until 3.30pm at the new Blossom Circle on Saturday 24 May.

FA small team have been meeting at Left Bank on Wednesday evenings to do some bunting making. They are hoping to have lots of bunting for use in the park over the 125th Anniversary weekend in September.

If you fancy a bit of crafting time and chat with other Friends of Burley Park members, please join them at Left Bank from 6pm on a Wednesday. If you have your own pinking shears, please bring them with you.
