An event in Armley will encourage people to think about how drinking can affect family life as part of the upcoming Alcohol Awareness Week.
Forward Leeds will be running events at three of Leeds City Council’s One Stop Centres and launching a social media campaign with a hashtag of #LoveMyFamily. It’s hoped the campaign will make people think again how alcohol impacts on the relationships between themselves and their partners and families.
Bill Owen, Early Intervention and Prevention Manager for Forward Leeds said:
“Alcohol can have a big impact on family lives, even for families that don’t think they drink that much.
“There is evidence to suggest that even for parents who don’t regularly drink large amounts, drinking can still have negative effects on their children
“It can also impact on relationships and is a big factor in domestic violence.
”We are hoping that through Alcohol Awareness Week people will take some time to consider how alcohol may be affecting their family life. They can then start to have a conversation about positive changes that they might want to make to their lifestyle.”
Forward Leeds will be at the Reginald One Stop Centre in Chapeltown on the 15 November, the Dewsbury Road One Stop Centre on 16 November and Armley One Stop Centre on the 17 November. Forward Leeds will be offering information and advice around about the impact of alcohol on children.
Alcohol Awareness Week is a national campaign organised by Alcohol Concern. The theme this year is Alcohol and Families.
