Farsley Celtic top table after beating local rivals Ossett

Farsley replaced Lancaster City at the top of the table after a superb comeback victory over local rivals Ossett Albion, writes Thomas Ritchie.

Lancaster were defeated 2-0 by Colwyn Bay whilst goals from Adam Clayton and a last-minute winner from Lewis Nightingale saw The Celts to a 2-1 victory.

Farsley started the brighter and could have gone in front as Paul Walker fed Chris Howarth, who forced Brett Souter to make a fine stop in the Ossett goal.

Ryan Watson and Ross Daly both had chances for Farsley before they suffered a scare as ‘keeper Graeme McKibbin gifted the ball to Luke Porritt only for Aiden Savory made a timely intervention to keep the scores level.

A late challenge by Dominic Riordan saw him receive a yellow card despite appearing to go over the top, but Albion ended the half the strongest as a Rob Bordman free-kick from the edge of the box struck the bar.

The Celts created a plethora of chances in the second half and thought they had taken the lead when Richard Marshall played in Ross Daly. His shot cannoned against the bar before bouncing down onto the line, with the linesman adjudging the ball to have stayed out of the goal.

However within moments of that Albion countered through Ross Hardaker who picked out Alex Boache in the box, the substitute slotting home to stun Farsley.

The Celts went searching for an immediate reply, with a superb cross-field pass from Ryan Watson picking out Paul Walker who nodded down to Richard Marshall, but Souter was there to make the stop once more.

Chris Atkinson then fired over after Paul Walker picked him out, however Farsley deservedly equalised as Adam Clayton powerfully headed home Ryan Watson’s corner.

Richard Marshall then spurned further chances, Souter denying him after Atkinson set him up, before he headed over Aiden Savory’s cross.

In the final minute of normal time Farsley snatched the victory, as the ball fell to Lewis Nightingale in the box, the midfielder drilling home past Souter in the Albion goal.

The goal earned Farsley their seventh consecutive league victory and moved them top of the division.
