Farsley Celtic Deaf slip to cup final defeat – but celebrate treble-winning season

Farsley Celtic Deaf narrowly missed out on a quadruple trophy haul this season after losing the FA Disability Cup final against rivals St John’s DFC.

The game, screened live on TNT Sport yesterday, saw St John’s beat Farsley Celtic 2-1 in the Deaf Cup final to defend their title.

A Farsley Celtic Deaf spokesperson said: “Unfortunately despite trying our best St John’s held on to their lead to see it out to the final whistle.

“We think it’s fair to say we let ourselves down in the first half but showed our true spirit in the second half, we hit the post twice and had a chance in the dying seconds but it wasn’t to be.

“Full respect to St John’s DFC, we hope Byron Down has a speedy recovery. Thank you to TNT and England FA for hosting a wonderful weekend of football. We will be back next season after a well-deserved break.”

This season saw The Celts scoop three trophies in hearing and deaf football:

  • England Deaf Football League and Cup double 2023/24
  • West Riding FA Premier League Champions 2023/24
  • They also finished third in the Deaf Champions’ League in Athens, Greece 2023/24 and were EDF National Futsal champions 2023/24 and EDF Youth Futsal Champions 2023/24.
