It’s a hectic schedule for The Celts in the run up to Christmas – but boss Clayton Donaldson is looking forward to locking horns with Radcliffe in the FA Trophy tomorrow (Saturday).
Donaldson says he has ‘belief and faith’ in his players ahead of tomorrow’s FA Trophy game against high fliers Radcliffe FC.
His side have come off the back of securing seven points from three difficult games. Back-to-back league wins against Boston United and Buxton, followed by battling 1-1 draw at Southport on Tuesday, have given everyone at the club a boost and has pushed Farsley up into mid-table in the National League North.
Securing their first home win of the season against Boston with a strong all-round performance was a real tonic for staff, players and fans alike – and The Celts are looking to build on that result against our visitors from across the Pennines tomorrow.
A mounting injury and suspension list means Clayton has some tough decisions to make ahead of the game, particularly given the Celts are back in league action against Spennymoor at The Citadel on Tuesday.
“The injuries and suspension list just keeps growing, and we know tomorrow is a massive game,” Clayton admitted. “It’s that time of the year and the games are coming thick and fast. We’re looking forward to tomorrow and I’m confident that whoever we bring in will do a good job.
“We want to do well. I know we reached the quarter finals of the Trophy last season before missing out to Gateshead on penalties and, when I played at York, we reached the semi finals. It’s always good to have a cup run and it’s always a great experience which you can look back on.
“We have enough quality in the squad to do well and go for the win. I have that belief and faith in the players.”
Tomorrow’s opponents Radcliffe are ten points clear at the top in the Northern Premier and will prove difficult opponents – but it’s a challenge Clayton and the lads are relishing.
“It will be a tough game, they like to play expansive football and have an experienced team, many of whom are National League North quality. But I feel we have got enough to get a result tomorrow. We’ve done our homework on them and we’ll come into the game prepared.
“We’ve come into some good form and we want to keep that run going.”
Director of football Pav Singh is also looking forward to the game. He added: “We are going through a tough spell at the moment, with a crowded fixture list and injuries and suspensions to deal with.
“The injuries provide a good opportunity for our talented younger players to step in and make a name for themselves. I’m sure the players will stick together and step up.”
