Farsley Celtic aim for cup semis in away game being played at home

By David Pearce

Farsley Celtic are back in cup action tonight (Tuesday, 31 January) when they take on Albion Sports in the quarter final of the West Riding FA County Cup.

Farsley Celtic were drawn as the away side in an intriguing tie which pitches the Celts against their ground-share tenants Albion Sports.

Albion Sports ply their trade in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division and, like their more illustrious opponents tonight, they also find themselves in a grim battle against relegation.

The County Cup though has provided welcome relief to Albion Sports and they have collected notable scalps on their way to the quarter finals.

They beat Garforth Town on penalties in the first round and caused the shock of the second round despatching Halifax Town at The Shay. Sports needed a 5-4 penalty shoot-out triumph to go through after the sides were tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Farsley Celtic had a bye in the first round and were awarded a ‘walk-over’ in the second round when Glasshoughton Welfare withdrew from the competition. So, the Celts have made it through to the quarter finals without yet kicking a ball in anger.

Tonight’s tie is the last of the four quarter final games to be played. The other results at this stage of the competition being:

  • Horbury Town 2 Liversedge FC 4
  • Brighouse Town 2 Campion 4
  • Barnoldswick Town 3 Golcar United 0

There are some notable absentees from this stage of the competition this season. Guiseley were dumped out of the Cup by Horbury Town who beat them 5-2 at Nethermoor Park, Bradford Park Avenue fell in the second round, beaten at home by Brighouse Town and, as already mentioned, Halifax Town were dumped out of the competition in the second round by Albion Sports.

Tonight’s clash kicks off at 7.45pm. Admission is £6 adults, £3 concessions.

Why not pop along to watch this fascinating once-in-a-life-time encounter? Why not enjoy a drink and the hospitality on offer at Farsley Celtic?

The Nest Bar will be open as usual from 5pm, with all supporters welcome. From 6.45pm-7.45pm Happy Hour offers are available, offering 50p off all draught products.
