Farsley Celtic earned their first league victory of the season with a resounding 3-0 victory over West Yorkshire rivals Ossett Town, writes Thomas Ritchie.
Ossett had the first chance of the game when Nathan Curtis put David Brown through on goal, however he squandered a great opportunity, putting his shot wide from close range.
Farsley then started to get a foothold in the game and took the lead when a piledriver from captain Robbie O’Brien from 30 yards beat Ossett ‘keeper Tom Morgan, who was won of three ex-Celts, to open the scoring.
Farsley’s Paul Walker then had a chance well saved from the edge of the box, before minutes later he played in Ross Daly whose shot was blocked. Daly and Walker teamed up again to create another chance just before half-time, as Walker’s shot from Daly’s cross was expertly saved by Morgan.
Just after the hour mark Farsley doubled their lead when some lovely interplay, started by Kyle Hancock, resulted in Paul Walker opening his Farsley account with a terrific effort from the edge of the box.
Moments later Walker played in Aiden Savory who fired just wide. Farsley almost sealed victory shortly after when Hancock crossed for O’Brien, who shot straight at the ‘keeper from close range.
With just minutes on the clock Neil Stevens almost scored a wonder goal as he let fly from all of 30 yards only to see his effort hit the crossbar.
Immediately after the Celts sealed victory as O’Brien played a perfectly timed through ball to Aiden Savory who couldn’t beat the keeper when one on one, however the rebound fell to substitute Nicky Guest, who slotted home to seal a vital win for Farsley.
