Farnley & Wortley local election result 2021: Blackburn holds for Greens

David Blackburn narrowly held his Farnley and Wortley Ward seat for the Green Party at this year’s Leeds City Council elections.

The count was held today in the First Direct Arena in Leeds following voting on Thursday. The delayed count was due to social distancing measures.

Cllr Blackburn held off nearest challenger Matt Gibson, who was a previous Labour councillor for the ward between 2018-19. Cllr Blackburn had 2,293 votes, 138 ahead of Mr Gibson’s 2,155.

The result means the political make-up of Farnley and Wortley Ward remains the same, with three Green Party councillors.

Here are the results:

David Blackburn – Green Party 2,293
Ian Cowling – Yorkshire Party 315
Maria Anne Frank – Liberal Democrats 77
Matt Gibson – Labour Party 2,155
Cormac John Trigg – Conservative Party 1,004
