Armley: Different Strokes Leeds Group

December 5 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

It is recognised that stroke is life changing, not just for survivors, but for families and carers. Recovery takes time and for many, staying active and feeling independent, is crucial to recovery. The Different Strokes Charity ‘help stroke survivors and their families in the UK through active peer support’.

More detailed information can be found on website www.differentstrokes.co.uk. There are around 30 groups about the country with many services online. Different Strokes Leeds is one of its groups

Different Strokes Leeds’ Group meet in Armley Leisure Centre every Friday afternoon (1pm – 3pm).  It is an informal mutual support group. Since its launch, attendance has gradually increased to approximately forty members, plus carers – all from diverse backgrounds sharing common goals.

They organise a number of social events – trips out for meals, to the seaside, theatre, Christmas pantomimes and bowling. Also a wide range of other activities, designed to give everyone an opportunity to do something they would not normally do. Activities include badminton, table tennis, chess, dominoes, backgammon, etc – or if anyone chooses, they can just sit and talk, or just sit and not talk, drink tea, eat biscuits!

For further information about attending the Leeds group please contact the Different Strokes Leeds Central Group Coordinator, Lynne Archer on Tel: 0113 418 2833 or email: leedscentral@differentstrokes.co.uk.
