Derelict Armley pub may be demolished

An eyesore Armley pub which has been closed for aomost a decade could be demolished.

The Golden Lion pub in Armley Road could be demolished and replaced by two warehouse units, each with a reception/sales area and car parking.

A planning application has been submitted by the Westcourt Group for the pub site, which dates back to late Victorian times. A design statement submitted by developers says:

“The Golden Lion is in an advanced state of dereliction and is beyond economic repair. The garden area to the side and rear of the building is overgrown and has been the site of anti-social behaviour including drug abuse. The paved car park area remains open.”

But Leeds City Council’s highways department have said that they cannot currently support the application, citing issues with parking and access on the site.

The plans can be read in full – and commented upon – here.
