A building housing three commercial units could be demolished as part of a wider plan to build new student accommodation.
Councillors on the city plans panel will tomorrow (Thursday) discuss Torsion (Burley Street) Ltd’s proposals for a purpose-built student accommodation development of between six and eight storeys high, with associated amenity space, roof terraces, servicing, cycle parking, and hard and soft landscaping on land including 16-22 Burley Street.
The three-storey building to be demolished at 18-22 Burley Street is currently split into three commercial units. The building was sold by cash-strapped Leeds City Council last year. It dates back to 1910.
Planning officers are recommending the councillors approve the plans in principle, subject to a road safety audit, financial contributions to the Burley Street cycle scheme, and control of student occupancy.
Council papers and the full agenda of tomorrow’s Civic Hall meeting (1.30pm) can be found here.
WLD has previously reported on the Burley Street sale and development here.
More student housing? Meanwhile there’s a major housing problem for local people not a transient population.
