Council chiefs have signed off a £39,000 scheme to introduce 44 motorcycle spaces across Leeds – including 16 in West Leeds.
The aim is to improve security and availability of motorcycle parking, following an increase in theft and anti-social behaviour across Leeds.
A council report said:
“Recent issues with motorcycle crime in Leeds have meant improvements to motorcycle parking security is required.
“The motorcycle parking spaces will have a secure anchor that motorbikes can be chained to, which reduces the risk of theft. There is also a sign on the anchor that reminds users to lock the motorcycle with a sold secure standard lock and chain.”
The report adds that motorcycles and other powered two-wheelers can be lower cost to own and run than cars and provide a reduced risk of Covid exposure. It says many suburban car parks in Leeds currently have no dedicated secure motorcycle facilities.
The areas in West Leeds earmarked for new bays include:
- Two in Charles Street, Farsley.
- Two in Pudsey Leisure Centre car park.
- Four on Lidget Hill, Pudsey.
- Two at Pudsey Civic Hall, at Dawsons Corner.
- Two on Burley Road.
- Four on Kirkstall Road.
Motorcycle parking will be in place later in the 2021/22 financial year.

Hopefully in well used areas. Many of the ones in Leeds centre are tucked away, so making it ideal for thieves to attack them.
