Back in 2023 the West Leeds Dispatch was the first to report that Bramley resident Ruth Diskin had set up a micro-bakery in her back garden.
The bakery has been well received in the community and has recently celebrated its second birthday with a special celebration.
Adults and children alike enjoyed colouring in drawings of fat pigeons, which were created for the day.
People came out to enjoy the baked goods and too see for the first time the new art
installation.
Fat Pigeon bakery commissioned Nat, a local artist with a background in book illustration and tattooing, to create two giant pigeons that now reside in the garden in front of the bakery. You can find Nat on Instagram at Pearly Rubble.

The pigeons also made a one-off appearance at Sunny Bank Mills. The bakery has also proven popular with the Bramley parkrun regulars, who often drop by for a post-run breakfast, as it is just across the road from the park, a couple of doors down from Bramley Baths.
Fat Pigeon also featured at the new Moorfields market, which recently launched at the entrance to Bramley Park and almost sold out within the first hour due to demand. The market will be open on the third Sunday of every month.
Fat Pigeon was opened by Ruth Diskin, a passionate baker who built the bakery herself in
her back garden.
Since the bakery’s opening, she has been making improvements in the garden in the bakery itself to make it more accessible and appealing to the community.
She has also partnered with other local entrepreneurs Bramley Batch, who are now a feature in the garden offering unique batch coffee brews. You can find them on Instagram under Bramley.batch.
In a review, Leeds Bread co-op wrote: “[It’s the] best addition to Bramley since the baths, which is right next to your favourite bakery! Best egg custard in the land.” And Leeds-List added: “Fat pigeon’s baked goods are 10/10.”
Fat Pigeon just extended its opening hours so the bakery is now open both Saturday and Sunday mornings, 9am-12pm.
