Bramley Park bowlers find friendship – and warmth – in winter

By Lynn Beaumont

Bramley Park Crown Green bowlers haven’t let the grass grow under their feet during the winter season.

If they haven’t been bowling at Burley Park’s winter outdoor bowling green they have been meeting weekly and rolling somewhat larger balls with holes in!

Hollywood Bowl in Kirkstall has hosted the weekly meet ups where the team members have enjoyed regular social interaction with a hint of competitiveness thrown in.

Long-term member Bob Davison said: “Bowling is the best thing ever. As well as keeping fit the social side and friendships made is brilliant. Everyone is so friendly.”

Bob’s brother Keith echoed these sentiments. He added: “Winter can be isolating for some and it’s important to still get out and about.”

Meanwhile, back at Bramley Park’s bowling headquarters, some members have been utilising their skills by erecting a canopy attached to the bowling hut.

This will be a great asset to members and visitors to allow shelter from hot sunshine or more inclement weather.

A ‘Go Fund Me’ page has been set up to help with the cost of the shelter.

The new bowling season starts from April 1 and new members will be very welcome to join.

There will be social bowling sessions on Mondays and Fridays from 1pm then Saturday mornings where breakfast sandwiches are often served for a small contribution.
