The organiser behind a revival of Bramley’s popular carnival has told residents to ‘expect the unexpected’ at this year’s event.
Bramley Festival will take place in Bramley Park on Sunday, August 20, between 12 noon and 5pm and will feature a fun fair, stalls, attractions, donkey rides and entertainment.
Speaking at a Bramley and Stanningley Forum meeting, Bramley resident and organiser Stephen McBarron said:
“Basically we have everything you’d expect from a community event like this – and more. People should expect the unexpected!”
Mr McBarron urged local residents to help support the event by volunteering on the day and by local community groups hosting stalls. Ideas are for the event are welcome.
The steering group meets every Wednesday at Bramley Housing Office at 1.30pm and all are welcome to attend.
One thing that won’t be happening this year is the street parade around Bramley, which proved popular when the carnival was enjoying its heyday. Mr McBarron said the costs of road closures and policing had proven prohibitive, but didn’t rule out a return in future years.
Anyone with ideas or who wants to get involved with Bramley Festival can contact festival organiser Mr McBarron on 07411 299389 or email him on stevemcbarron90@gmail.com.
The original Bramley Carnival dates back to the 19th century and last ran in 2014.
