Community led Bramley Baths has enjoyed another successful year, its AGM has heard.
Over the past year more than 1,000 children have taken private swimming lessons at the Baths, with a total 1,511 individual members learning how to swim at the independent leisure centre.
The AGM heard that as of July the Baths has 950 monthly members, compared to 140 pre-2020. The Baths has also trained up dozens of new lifeguards.
The AGM also heard of plans to install new photo voltaic solar panels early next year to reduce costs and reduce the building’s carbon footprint. There are also plans to submit large-scale funding bids and launch a community share offer to support work on the Grade II Listed Edwardian building.
Bramley Baths chair Nick Quin said: “I was pleased to report back to the AGM that the Baths has had another successful year. 120 years after the Baths opened it is now a successful, sustainable social enterprise putting the people of Bramley first.
“We also announced our plans to run a share offer later this year. We’ll be inviting people to invest in the Baths to secure its long-term future, so keep your eyes peeled for news of how you can own a slice of Bramley’s heritage.”
Eleven people have completed a new volunteering programme at the Baths and more than 100 children took part in the second annual Sir John Battle Swimming Gala.
The Baths has been community led since 2013. This year marks the 120th anniversary since the Baths opened its doors in 1904. It is the last functioning Edwardian bath house in Leeds.
