Wortley Recreation Ground was sealed off over the weekend following the report of a suspicious object.
Police and the Army’s bomb disposal team were called to the ground, off Oldfield Lane, at 9.40pm on Saturday, 22 October.
A police cordon was put in place, which was lifted on Sunday.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “The item was assessed and found to be a piece of old playground equipment and presented no risk.”
Local resident Jenny Birdsall said: “I live opposite the park and walk my dogs there every day.
“On Sunday morning the park was completely closed off and there were police everywhere. Nobody was allowed to enter. We had no idea what had happened apart from what we read on social media. People said there may have been a bomb found or human remains.”
