A primary school in Armley has had a new prayer garden blessed by the Bishop of Leeds, Marcus Stock, after three years of fundraising.
Rt Rev Stock visited Holy Family Primary School to see the new garden, which is a space in school that could be a permanent place for people to visit to pray.
Headteacher Peter McQuillen-Strong said the idea came when Holy Family’s former priest, Father Francis McGrath, was talking to year one pupils at the school about having a place to pray. Mr Strong added:
“The church at Holy Family is a little walk away, and some people do not get to visit regularly.
“Mone Brothers very kindly donated a stone altar and because of this generous gift we were able to use further funds raised to install Yorkshire stone paving to finish the area.
“This three year journey was completed by Bishop Marcus but it will not end. The Prayer Garden at Holy Family will serve the school, parishioners and local community for many years to come. Holy Family feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to listen to and share their special place with Bishop Marcus.”
