Young Farsley Celtic slip to defeat against King’s Lynn

By John Baron

Bottom club Farsley Celtic slipped to a 3-1 defeat against King’s Lynn Town – but put up a battling performance against the more experienced full-time outfit.

Joao Silva’s classy injury time consolation goal came too late to affect the scoreline as the already relegated Celts slipped to their 15th consecutive defeat.

A brace from Gold Omotayo and an early finish from Ross Crane sealed a well-earned three points for the playoff chasers in a game again played at Buxton’s Tarmac Silverlands Stadium due to ongoing pitch issues in Farsley.

It only took nine minutes for Lynn to open the scoring – Hmami fed Crane, who finished coolly to make it 1-0. Eight minutes later the visitors doubled their lead through Omotayo’s powerful header.

While Lynn continued to control the game Farsley battled gamely and didn’t role over, despite the visitors’ third goal on 51 minutes, Omotayo smashing home from close range.

The returning Will Brook in the Farsley goal made some excellent stops and The Celts fashioned a couple of chances themselves, most notably when the diving Lynn’s keeper turned away a powerful drive from outside the box.

It was Joao Silva who had the final say, delightfully flicking the ball over a defender to fire the ball home from close range. It was a touch of class and some consolation for the handful of Celt fans who had made the two-hour trek to Derbyshire for a home game.

The Celts are back in Buxton on Tuesday for their penultimate ‘home’ game when Radcliffe are the visitors (7.45pm).
