Plans for a new playground in Western Flatts Park could become a reality in late January or early February, a local parks group has said.
The Friends of Western Flatts Park have been campaigning for a new playground to be built to replace the dilapidated, run-down facility which has drawn criticism from angry parents.
Posting on social media this week, the group said: “We’re getting close to the end of the year, so we wanted to give you a quick update on how things are progressing with the new play area.
“Currently, it’s looking like work will begin in late January/early February, with the old playground equipment staying in place until all work on the new play area is complete.
“This could slip back if we have particularly bad weather, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that won’t be the case. Either way, we’ll keep you posted and share another update in January.”
The location of the new play area was revealed in October following a public consultation. It will be based at the top of Western Flatts Cliff Park, near the now-defunct changing rooms.
It has taken a long time to get to a point where construction of the new playground can begin after more than 1,000 people signed a petition back in 2021.
