A West Leeds football club for girls has netted an £800 donation from a local housebuilder.
Wortley FC Girls will use the funding to buy team kits and new training equipment, such as poles and balls.
Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire awarded Wortley FC Girls the funding through its Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support groups, charities and organisations from across the region.
Christine Hayhurst, from Wortley FC Girls, said:
“We aim to attract more girls to sport. We believe it’s all about starting at grassroots level to encourage and develop a passion for football as well as maintaining the health and wellbeing of players.
“Thanks to the support from Persimmon Homes, our under 14s squad will have a team kit and we can invest in new equipment for the benefit of the entire club.”
Simon Whalley, sales director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said:
“Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting local people in the areas where we are building.
“We are pleased to see that the funding will be going towards purchasing valuable equipment and clothing for the girls. Choosing our monthly winners is always a difficult task but we encourage any local charities and organisations to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form on the Persimmon Homes website.”
