A big congratulations to Wortley Under 16 Girls who beat Garforth Rangers 4-0 away from home to extend their unbeaten run to five games, writes Becky Doggett.
The warm spring sunshine made play difficult at times but the girls worked hard for each other, putting together some entertaining passages of football. First half goals from Olivia, Shannon and Annie brought the side in with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
A determined Garforth side battled hard in the second half, however Shannon found the back of the net to secure the 4-0 result and Wortley came away from the game with their fourth clean sheet of the season.
Wortley now turn their attention to this weekend where they travel to Beckwithshaw, who are also the opponents for the upcoming West Riding Girls Football League shield competition final! The final will take place on Sunday 14th May at Wetherby Sports Association.
Prior to this, on the 7th May, three members of the U16s coaching staff (J Miers, Leo Verity, and Matty Sizer) will walk the 15 miles between the U16s home ground at Wortley Recreation Ground to the location of the final to raise money both to secure the future of the girls section at Wortley FC and for Mind the mental health charity.
