Work has this week started on replacing play equipment destroyed during an arson attack in Armley Park.
As reported by WLD last month, arsonists targeted the climbing boulders and the surrounding soft surfacing at the new playground area of Armley Park – just seven months after it opened following a fundraising campaign by local residents.
The Friends of Armley and Gotts Park group, which led the original fundraiser, posted on social media: “Pleased to say that contractors are on site and replacing the damaged equipment. Happy days – and thanks to everyone who helped make this possible, it’s much appreciated.”
And Councillor Lou Cunningham (Lab, Armley) added: “Great to see the contractors starting work to repair and replace our playground. All being well should be finished and resurfaced before Christmas Friends of Armley and Gotts Park.”
Armley Park playground boasts a zip wire, swings, roundabout, climbing boulders, slide, wheelchair-accessible equipment and is on different levels to add interest.
