Women in LS12 area are being invited to a free two-hour self-defence class on Tuesday 29 October 7pm-9pm at Interplay Theatre, Armley Ridge Road.
The free training by a qualified female self-defence specialist aims to give local women more personal safety awareness and confidence – especially as nights draw in and the clocks go back. Book a place via SHESafe or SHEnanigans on Facebook or turn up at 7pm.
The self defence class on Tuesday night is one of a series of free self defence, active bystander, and safety awareness training sessions planned through the SHESafe Campaign led by Shenanigans Armley.
SHESafe aims to make life safer for women and girls and anyone identifying as female, who grow up, work or live in LS12.
Lizzie Whewell, of SHESafe and Shenanigans, said “Women’s safety is everyone’s business.
“By offering training to women, girls, boys and men; by helping women to learn how to protect themselves and by helping boys and men become active bystanders who can safely protect others, we can all be part of the change to make LS12 safer for women and girls. Please get involved if you can, and encourage your family and friends to do the same.”
So far the SHESafe campaign has invited all LS12 pubs and clubs to join the Ask for Angela Campaign to help women get support on a night out if they’re feeling unsafe.
Four venues in LS12 have adopted Ask for Angela with more anticipated to opt in, as LS12 women invite local businesses to help in ensuring women’s safety within their community.
SHESafe and Shenanigans are delighted that the Malt Shovel, Dragon Inn, Interplay Theatre and Travellers Rest have said yes to Ask for Angela at their premises, and made time for their teams to get trained by the SHESafe volunteers.
