The last time West Leeds played host to Selby Frankle was romping to victory on his final outing before being retired to stud, writes Glenn Broadbent.
After 11 minutes it seemed the thoroughbreds of West Leeds were going to romp away with this game and that is where any analogies will end.
The first six minutes saw an equal passage of play with Selby eventually coming close with a missed penalty.
Just five minutes later following some ferocious scrummaging presented their backs with the ball and just two passes saw Wests take a 7-0 lead.
Selby pressed from the restart but on 15 minutes it was West Leeds who broke from their own 22 to score following a cheeky chip and pacey run. 14-0.
On 18 minutes Selby were down to 14 men with a sin bin offence and five minutes later West Leeds took advantage when facing what looked like a blind alley a stunning kick through saw them go over for a 21-0 lead.
Selby hit back just two minutes later with a forward dominated tray which they failed to convert. 21-5.
Wests replied straight from the restart to earn their bonus point (4 tries) 28-5.
Both sides cancelled each out until added time with Selby breaking through with a penalty try 28-12.
Again the home side hit straight back, this time the try remained unconverted.
33-12 HT
The second half began with West Leeds scoring from the kick off, the conversion failing 38-12.
This was to signal a terrific Selby fight back, the visitors dominating much of the 2nd half with some expansive backs play and hardworking forward movement, they pegged the score back to 38-24.
West Leeds added two penalties against the run of play 44-24.
The final play of the game saw Selby make the final score 44-31.
A great game with some real commitment from both side.
Selby have had a difficult set of fixtures to start the season and today they showed they will start to pick up wins very soon.
West Leeds sit second in Yorkshire Division 1 and are away to York next week.
