The company which brought to you I Love West Leeds Festival, and This Land: the Story of Woody Guthrie are now bringing their hugely successful national tour PAINT back to our hometown of Leeds, writes Nolly Bouameur.
Interplay are a national theatre company who create performances that are accessible across the five senses and allow young people with learning disabilities to experience theatre in an enchanting immersive way.
Thanks to the generous funding from local Local Charity Wade’s* we are able bring a week’s residency of ‘PAINT’ to inner city Leeds SEN schools.
‘PAINT’ has been in development in special schools and our base in Armley for five years and has been a huge success nationally.
Interplay have performed to over 2,400 children who experience the world with only one or two senses.
We have created an immersive environment where we interact and give children who are sometimes the furthest to reach the opportunity to leave their own trace in the space.
“The children enjoyed wearing their white protective suits and interacting with the dancers and violinist as they Painted. More than 100 children created some unique and individual pieces of fluorescent art.”
– Green Fold School, Bolton
“Wonderful messy, fun, sensory and touching to see how involved the children were with the interplay team who were amazing.”
– Priory Woods School, Middlesbrough
*Wade’s is the working name of The Charities of Thomas Wade & Others, a charitable trust which provides grant funding for the benefit of the inhabitants of the inner city of Leeds.
