You can put your used postage stamps to good use this Christmas.
Volunteers at Leeds City Mission in Armley are asking West Leeds Dispatch readers to recycle the postage stamps from Christmas cards from far and wide land which will be landing on their doormat in the run up to Christmas.
Over the last 12 months the City Mission has gathered over 5,000+ used postage stamps in their fundraising efforts.
Many charities can use donated stamps to realise much needed cash from philatelic enthusiasts and private collectors. Any stamps can be recyled and used – especially foreign stamps that have a higher value.
City Mission staff member Michelle Pawson explained that the City Mission will welcome any quantity of stamps. Stamps that have been franked on the envelope are also acceptable. All people need to do is to leave a small margin of paper around the stamps as they detach it from the envelope.
The City Mission Compassion Centre in Mistress Lane, Armley is open Monday to Friday, 10am–3pm and anyone wanting to donate quantities of stamps are welcome to drop them in at their leisure.
In the new year City Mission volunteers will pack up a huge batch of the stamps, which will then be passed on to other charities to help them in their fund raising endeavours.
Development Worker Andy Dalton concluded that Leeds City Mission was seeking to bring help to wide range of individuals and organisations.
This was a simple project generating some income for good causes. He encouraged everyone to think before throwing their envelopes away and detach the stamps to pass on to this simple but worthwhile project.
Leeds City Mission is one of the oldest charities in Leeds being in continuous existence since 1837.
It is a multi-church Christian agency which organises a number of projects from its premises in Mistress Lane helping people at the margins of life.
