Super DJ strike salvages draw as Farsley Celtic fight back at North Ferriby

By John Baron

A stunning equaliser from DJ Campton-Sturridge helped Farsley Celtic maintained their unbeaten pre-season run with a 1-1 draw at North Ferriby.

The hosts proved lively opponents and the game proved a useful workout as Clayton Donaldson’s side continued their preparations ahead of their National League North campaign starting in two weeks’ time.

The Celts have been playing some nice one-touch football in pre-season so far as they seek to bed in an influx of new players.

They were dealt a blow after just five minutes, when centre half Isaac Assenso went off following a clash of heads.

Dylan Youmbi had the first real opportunity to get on the scoresheet, when he drifted inside from the right with some delightful footwork, before firing an effort over the bar.

Ryan Watson has enjoyed a strong pre-season, and came close to adding to his tally of 2 goals 15 minutes in when his low strike from the edge of the area forced a save from the goalkeeper down to his left.

The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Mason Johnson headed in past Farsley’s trial list keeper from a set piece.

The Celts dominated possession in the second half and finally found their equaliser with 20 minutes remaining when substitute DJ Campton-Sturridge received the ball from range before turning and smashing the ball into the top left corner to draw The Celts level.

Robbie Fox almost found a winner with five minutes left when his point black header was blocked by the North Ferriby stopper’s face.

Following on from their 0-0 draw at Stocksbridge Park Steels last Friday, where a sloppy Farsley wasted a host of chances, the Celts will be disappointed not to have won at North Ferriby but the management team will be pleased to have seen players get another game under their belts.

The Celts are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to FC United of Manchester (7.45pm) for another pre-season friendly.
