A 62-year-old man has died and two others were seriously injured after a car crashed into a bus stop on Stanningley Road, near the junction with Armley Grange Drive.
At 3.13pm today (Monday, November 20) officers were called to reports that a vehicle had been in collision with a bus stop along Stanningley Road.
One of the pedestrians, a man aged 62 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other pedestrians were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 57-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs and remains in police custody.
Officers have appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time or may have dash cam footage of the incident to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 or use the Live Chat facility, quoting log 964 of 20 November.
Second time in 8 months someone has tragically died whilst standing at a bus stop on Stanningley Road when a car drove into it. Something not right here.
This is very sad and eerily similar to the previous incident on Stanningley Road. I use this road regularly, its pretty straight, so visibility is fine, I can’t see any problems with the road layouts or markings, and the speed limit is appropriate for the type of road. And we are talking about fatalities concerning people stood on the pavement. There’s only one cause for this, selfish and idiot drivers who shouldn’t be on the roads.
