Sisters keep it in the family at Bramley Junior Parkrun

Words: Jean Hollings

Sisters Danielle Hutchinson and Vickie Jamieson have taken over the leadership of Bramley Junior Parkrun.

The 2km free event is held every Sunday morning in Bramley Park for children aged between four and 14 years old.

Vickie said:

“It’s the happiest way to start a Sunday morning, the children have such enthusiasm you can’t help but enjoy taking part.

“Parkrun has given me so much, I know the huge benefits it can provide participants and volunteers so I wanted to become part of the parkrun family to help introduce others so they can experience the same thing.”

How do children join junior parkrun?

Please register at https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ and print off your barcode before you start. Then remember to bring it every time you attend.

Your child can start to achieve wristbands for attending.

  • 11 completed runs = 1/2 marathon
  • 21 completed runs = a full marathon
  • 50 completed runs = an ultra marathon

If you are a parent or guardian you can run with your child or you are welcome to volunteer while your child is running.

What the children say…

Finlay, aged nine, said:

“I like running fast and meeting my friends.”

Zen, aged six, said: “Meeting new friends” and six-year-old toby added: “Getting exercise with friends.”
